When Jai Singh built his new capital in Jaipur, he made it a planned town. In building the temples and the numerous sculptures which adorn them, the Sliilpashasiras have always been used in our country, but no body at least in northern India, seems to have thought very much of their town planning chapters. By constructing the shops on both sides of the main roads, he ensured the widths of these roads. “The staff wear uniforms with sashes and hats, and it’s buzzing with locals.” (Bracken-Singh was instrumental in setting up the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing in a gorgeously refurbished estate—a 35-minute drive out of town. The main road which practically was the axis of the town had to be built along this ridge. The backyards of the houses should meet together.
