23 of 31 people found this review helpful. Set during the Ming Dynasty, this acclaimed production tells the story of a power hungry eunuch who employs an evil sect in his quest to rule China. I must confess that I find this remake of the great King Hu's original of the same name, to be decidedly inferior to the original: where King Hu gives us beautiful, ballet-like fighting scenes that tell stories of courage and character in a clearly articulated language of bodily movements, the fighting in this version is a blur of what could be bundles of clothes shaken frenetically in a deranged tumbler drier. Meanwhile, a young swordsman and his fellow disciple are accidentally drawn into the chaos.
