But there’s something super cute about a beach cottage that’s not as bare-bones and impersonal as a motel stay, and not as luxe and secluded as a villa. We’ve seen some pretty adorable accommodations during our travels, from cozy cabins to beachfront bungalows and more. The bar serves drinks all day, and features lounge areas that are quiet by day and stir to life in the evening when the nightly live music starts (this is where the resort's TV is, though it's rarely on).

All rooms are technically smoke free, but during our visit, multiple smelled like stale cigarettes. Set on the sunset side of the bluff, the open-air restaurant is a calming oasis of dark woods and dreamy white curtains. Those looking for a resort that feels more South Beach than San Pedro should consider Coco Beach opened in 2010 and is the flagship property of the Ambergris Caye-based Sandy Point Resort family. The poolside Coco Cafe offers breakfast, snacks, and sells basic sundries. Swaying palm trees, fine white sand, and turquoise waters make the Caribbean one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Hairdryers are standard, as are lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and body gel. Not to detract from the nature, there are no TVs in the rooms (there's one in the bar for important events). The capital city of St. John’s is a 25-minute drive away. There, travelers can find several popular restaurants, as well as attractions like the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, the V.C. Free Wi-Fi, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and bathrooms with open-air showers come standard, but there are no TVs. The lovely pools are an asset because, like most beaches in the area, the resort’s waterfront frequently falls victim to excessive sea grass. The amenities are perfectly positioned to take in the water and sunset views. They include king-size mahogany and rattan sleigh beds with matching dressers and nightstands. In the evening, romantic lighting and the sound of crashing waves serve as the backdrop for the Mediterranean-inspired a la carte dinner menu.
